Who is Last Chance , and where are they going?
|
Last Chance was started by three
guys, Brent Carnes, Andy Gilbert, and Pat Kearns. We were frustrated seeing so many good live shows by local bands, yet
these bands couldn't afford to put out a record or CD. So we thought if we pooled some money, and had a bunch
of bands chip in, we could put out a decent compilation that would be like twelve singles on one CD. Thus, the LAST
CHANCE IN PORTLAND CD was born in 1997. Well about 9 months into it, we realized that we still didn't have enough money,
but we had all this great material.
In steps Mark Surratt. He
helped us with the amount of money we were short, and with the design and layout of the booklet. He had so much
fun, that he has continued to run it with a little help here and there from Brent.
Andy and Pat though still active
in the local music scene, were smart enough to leave after the first project. Though two releases involving Pat,
BIG JIM, and THE SMOKES, have been released on Last Chance.
With Mark and Brent now running
things, we have slowly tried to help breakout our favorite local and regional acts. Take a look around, you might find
something you enjoy.

The objective of our label
is to release music by bands that we like as often as we can. Plain and simple.
The men behind Last
Chance:
Mark Surratt has
been a fan of local Portland music, and hell, music in general since the mid-seventies. He has witnessed most of the
greats in their hey-day's such as THE WIPERS, THE CLEAVERS, NEO-BOYS, STIPHNOIDS, ETC...All these years
later and he still can't believe he hasn't gotten tired of it. Will it ever end?
Brent Carnes has been playing in bands in Portland,
since 1993. He was in BOMF!, JR. SAMPLES, ALL OUT and now the MUDDY RIVER NIGHTMARE BAND. He has also been
booking, promoting and organizing shows since 1984.
